To all family member searching for African American Killcrease family members living in Edgefield, South Carolina in the 1800's and 19000's. My name is Cheryl Gibson I am a descendent of Killcrease from Edgefield South Carolina. The spelling of this name sometimes changes e.g., Gilchrist, Killcrest, Kilcrease Killcrease etc.

In the 1900's census there is a family of (Gilchrist) -- this is the way it was spelled then. I believe they are the link to my family of Killcrease.

My great great grandmotherís name was Millie Killrease she was born abt. 1859, she married Joshua Briggs Jr., who was born abt. 1853. They had a daughter by the name of Savannah Briggs Gardenhire who married Edmond Gardenhire Jr.

Below are the listings those names in the 1900 census. I can't make out some of the spellings.

Head - can't read name born 1857
Wife can't read name born 1862
Children as follows:
Daughter Minnie? born 1881
Son ? born 1885
Daughter born 1886
Son Alfred born 1883
Daughter Amy born 1891
Daughter Abbil 1892
Son James 1895
Son Jacob 1896
Daughter Mattie ? born 1898
Nephew born 1888

These Gilchrist (Killcrease) are friends with a family listed on that same sheet directly above them by the name of Joshua & Frances Briggs. Both Killcrease and Briggs are my family.

If you have any information pertaining to these people please contact me at:
