Interested in your spelling combination. Disparate facts are: my family comes from Co. Monaghan. Pat GGF buried Ontario Canada spelling on tombstone (more than one person) is Keirnan. All family I've found change spelling about 1900 to KIernan.
family rumor says, my PatGGF John Swanzy (multiple spellings of that name too) Keirnan/Kiernan had two brothers Robert and William. One of them (most commonly William) rumored to have gone to Australia probably mid 1850's. If you can see any connect drop me a line.
