I noticed your long-ago post. Since the family had a grocery store, perhaps he was a german redemptioner living with them and working in the grocery store. What being a redemptioner means is that someone pays the ship's captain for the passage fare, and then that passenger must work off the amount paid over a certain amount of time in order to no longer be indebted to the person paying the fare. Notify Administrator about this message?
