Hartford Hammond Kiefer/Keifer was the son of John McCarl Keifer and Elizabeth Bird Leggett.
John M. was the son of Robert S. Keifer and Julia Hammond, of Beaver Co, PA. They can be found in the census:
1860 Hanover, Beaver, PA
1870 Columbiana Co, OH
1880 Willowdale, Dickenson, KS
1900 with son William Hammond Keifer in California.
Robert was son of Jacob and Agnes Smith, of Beaver Co, PA.
Jacob was son of Johann Heinrich Kieffer and Ann Byers.
Heinrich was son of the immigrant Abraham and Christina Sprengle. They came from Breitenbach, Germany, to York County, PA.
Some of this needs proof. And, since it's not my family, I won't be looking for it.
