Lyman Kidder of the Secind Cavalry
I ran across this name while browsing through books at the gift shop at the Fort Hays, Kansas several years ago.One book was "A Dispatch to Custer" written by Randy Johnson and Nancy Allan.Apparently Lt. Kidder and ten troopers of the Second Cavalry were killed by the Indainswhile trying to deliver a dispatch to Custer. The page I copied from that book stated that Lyman had a brother by the name of Silas. One statement says his body was taken east for burial. That is about all I know about Lyman. An Atlas I have shows the "Site of the Kidder Massacre July 1867" in northeastern Kansas about 25 miles north of I-70 and about 30 miles east of the Colorado border.I am not related Lyman Kidder.
