Hi Damian. Most of the KIDDER's in the USA are descended from James KIDDER of 1600's Massachusetts. Thus, most KIDDER's in the 1700's were in New England or New York, or perhaps nearby areas. In the 1800's, they had migrated .. all over the place!
There were other KIDDER men who arrived in the USA later on, for example, in the early 1800's.So, you would need to find out a little more about your ancestors to see if they might go back to the patriarch, "Ensign James KIDDER," or some other KIDDER family.
If you have an approximate time when your great-grandfather, Emile KIDDER, lived, you should really post that information. That would help researchers know whether he lived in LA in the 1800's or 1900's.
Another question is whether or not you know whether your KIDDER's were always in Louisiana, or could they have moved there from another state.
And, since you are discussing LA, is it possible your ancestors were Mariners, or were somehow connected to the waterways there, like to ocean or the Mississippi River, etc. This means they could have come to LA by ship.
You need to consider all facets of your ancestors' lives to get "hints" as to their heritage (or family line).
Hope this helps a little.
