IÕm doing family research for my mother-in-law, and am trying to figure out how all the Keys fall into place ... My mother-in-law's paternal grandmother was Adaline Martha Poston. Growing up, she (MIL) was always told stories about her grandmother being a Keys and that they had cousins in Jonesborough. With the research I've done, it's become apparent that Adaline herself was not a Keys, but I think her sister married John S. Keys. Adaline was b. 1865 to Peter H. Poston and Elizabeth Gibson. Two of her sisters Ņ Sarah (b. 1867) and Jane ŌJennieĶ (b. 1869 or 1873, depending on which record you believe more) are the ones connected to the Keys, I think. In 1892 Washington Co., Jennie married John S. Keys. Sarah married Young Phillips (brother to AdalineÕs husband) in 1891, Hamblen Co. By 1900, Young was remarried, and there was a niece Mabell Phillips living with Jennie and John S. Keys. At this point, IÕm going with the guess that Sarah may have died during childbirth and Mabell was sent to live with her aunt Jennie while Young remarried. In 1910, Jennie and John had sons George S. and John W. These are the two names my mother-in-law remembers hearing as the names of her Keys cousins. IÕve found quite a bit on George and John (both deceased) and their children. The more I get into this, the more IÕm suspecting the Phillips are somehow connected to the Keys as well ... In 1910, Jacob Phillips (another brother of AdalineÕs husband Samuel) was living next door to John S. and Jennie Keys. In 1850, the Oliver family was living next to John & Elizabeth Keys and their kids. One of the OliverÕs children was Landon Ņ a name that John and Elizabeth used for one of their own children later. And the name of their daughter who died young Ņ Nellie Fine Keys ... It just starts getting sooooo convoluted!! The Fines and the Olivers were completely entwined with the Phillips in this area. Does anyone know anything about how the Keys might be related to the Fines, Olivers and Phillips? IÕd love to hea input, and any clarification or corrections to my theories above.
