Key Family Reunion 2008

In 1668, a family named Key arrived in Virginia from England. The elder Key was John Key and it is from him that our Virginia Key Family descends. This John and Mary Key had a son named John Key, Jr. who was born about 1653. He married Mary Palmer who was the daughter of Martin Palmer. He was a very well established planter in Virginia and considered a man of great influence. John and Mary Palmer Key in turn had a son whose name was Martin. He married Elizabeth Ford and to them was born two sons whose names were John and Martin. Martin Key, Jr. in turn married an Elizabeth Burford and John Key married Martha Tandy. John and Martha Tandy Key most likely have the most descendents living today. The Key Family Reunion 2008 is in honor of our ancestors who arrived in England in the year 1668.
John and Martha Tandy Key patented 3500 acres of land in about 1728 in what is now Albermarle County, Virginia. The name of this estate was known as “Key West.” This land patent was the fifth land patent in Albermarle County. It bordered the estate of Thomas Jefferson and was separated by the Revanna River. The “Key West Addition” in Charlottesville is located where the home of John and Martha Tandy Key stood. The foundation stones still can be seen protruding from the grounds today. The Key Family Reunion 2008 will be held at the present day “Key West Club” and on the banks of the Revanna River.

6 PM --- Banquet followed by a program that will give an overview of the history of the Key Family of Virginia
9 PM --- Dismiss
Saturday June 14, 2008
Key West Club Grounds
9 AM --- Key Family Returns back home
9 AM to 11 AM --- Program
11 AM – 12 Noon --- Mix and mingle
12 Noon --- Catered Lunch
1 PM – 3 PM Program and Finale
HOTEL ROOMS
There is a block of hotel rooms available at Comfort Inn in Charlottesville. This will be the official hotel. When making room reservations, please tell the person that this is for the Key Family Reunion and you will receive a special rate. The rates are as follows: June 11, 12 and 15th $89.95
June 13 & 14th $129.95
The hotel room rates are based on two people occupancy with a minimum stay of one night. The cut off date for reservations will be May 11, 2008.
All attending will be given a list of the local attractions and sites that relate to the history of our Key Family. You will be able to do your sight seeing on your own schedule. The most important site will perhaps be the Windie Knowe. This home was built about 1732 by John Key as a hunting lodge. It remained in the Key Family until 1808 at which time it was sold to the Minor Family. This family retained ownership until about 1925. The Windie Knowe is a very well preserved home form the Colonial Era and is well known today in the Charlottesville area.

The total cost per person will be $80.00
ADVANCE RESERVATIONS
Due to the necessary up front expenses to secure meeting places, catering, etc. advance reservations are necessary. Also meeting places for larger crowds are limited in Charlottesville. To assure that you will have a place it is necessary for you to secure that place early.

NOTE: Hotel rates at the nicer hotels can be expensive in the Charlottesville area. This is a really good rate for Charlottesville.
