Hi Steve,

I have been reading the messages on this board re: Martin Kettering. I believe you show that he is the son of Jacob Kettering and Rebecca Guntshorn, and grandson of Hans Adam Kettenring and Magdalena Gampfer. If this is the case, (then Martin was not born in Germany. Jacob came with his father Hans Adam to America on the 'Samuel' in 1740 where they settled in Lancaster Co., Pa.) then I would very much like to swap info with you. Jacob Kettering, the miller and innkeeper, also called 'Jacob the Tory' and Rebecca also had daughters Mary and Catherine among other children. Catherine married her cousin John Kettenring, son of Johann Michael Kettenring, who came to America on the 'Chance' in Sept. of 1765. Michael and his wife, Maria/Mary Magdalena Marquart/Marguard later moved to Wythe Co., Va and eventually on to Sullivan Co., TN. Jacob & Rebecca Guntshorn Kettering had also moved to Wythe Co., from Lancaster Co., Pa. John and Catherine had no children of their own. Jacob and Rebecca's daughter Mary married Jacob Cokenhour and they also later moved to Sullivan Co., TN. Jacob and Mary Kettering Cokenhour had a daughter Mary /Cokenhour/Cookenour, who married Watson Ketron, who was the son of Henry Kettenring/Ketron and his wife Susannah Sluss. Waton Ketron and Mary Cookenour are my gt-gt-grandparents, and I am very interested in more information on this Kettering line. Watson and Mary Ketron had 13 children, of which I have a good bit of info. I have a good bit of info on the rest of Johann Michael Kettenring's line as well, but not as much on 'Jacob the Tory's' line.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. I am trying to fill in as many of my Kettenring lines as possible. If you could e-mail me directly, I would appreciate it, as I don't get to this board too often.

Thanks much,
Betty Bishop Willoughby
