I've got you pegged.
Do you have the red Kettenring Family in America (1978)???
Your 3Ggrandfather Peter was my 4th Great Uncle, meaning we are 5th cousins.
Your line goes all the way back to Hans Jacob Sr who was born about 1560.His grandfather would have been the last noble von Kettenring who died at Sclhoss Nanstein above Landstuhl in 1523.
The von Ketterings were minor nobles in Wurttemburg in the 15th century, having been elevated by HRE Rupert IV, Duke Palatine, the last HRE not of the Hapsburg line.
The Kettenring family migrated down the Rhein River from Switzerland shortly after the battles of Nafels and Sempach where the Swiss beat the Austrians and established their independence permanently.
I haven't been able to find the ancentral family home in Switzerland, but I have been to the home your 4th Ggrandfather was born in ...in the tiny village of Salzwoog in the Pfalzwald.beautiful, sturdy home, one of 30 built by your 5thGgrandfather Johann Balthasaar Kettenring in 1729.
Hope this helps.
