My husband's (Alan Brend) GGGG-Grandmother was a KESTERSON, so we believe. Our information about her is as follows:
(Some of this came from a book, we think its title is "Appreciating Our Past, Anticipating the Future" pub. in Ark. 1988)--talking about a Rebecca BLACKWOOD thought to be the Rebecca KESTERSON who married William BLACKWOOD 11 Jan 1826 in Hardeman Co., TN, and possibly the sister to John KESTERSON, another pioneer of Howard Co.This Rebecca (KESTERSON-?) BLACKWOOD was stated as being a full blood Cherokee Indian, though we have yet to prove this. The BLACKWOOD ancestors were noted as coming from Ireland.
William & Rebecca went by covered wagon to AR about 1838.William (?) died on the way, leaving Rebecca with 5 children under the age of 17:Andrew, John, Elic (or Alex), Almeda (my husband's GGG-Grandmother--this has been spelled many ways, such as Alameda, Almedy, etc.), and William.Rebecca died between 1860-1870; census records show she was 50 years old in 1860.She was buried at Polk Cemetery located one mile east off Highway 369 on the Nathan Road.More detail is in the article in the book.
We have traced my husband's lineage back to her, but have gotten no futher from her.We have searched to a small extent for her and her descendents on the Dawes roll, but were unsucessful.
Any and all additional info pertaining to Rebecca Ann (KESTERSON) BLACKWOOD born about 1810 would be greatly appreciated.
