There were quite a few Kerstetters in North West Ohio and Southern Michigan. Most came from Pennsylvania where many remain to this day.

Kerstetters in my line traveled and married back and forth between S. Mich. and Ohio regularly. I am told that they often spoke German at their family reunions as recently as the 1920s and 30s. The names of the in-laws at the reunions seem to be mostly German; Reimund, Fike, Sharp, Jungmann, Leatherman, Dull, Meyer, Dickmander, Helmke, Gerken, etc.

My Great Grandmother was Dora Belle Kerstetter, daughter of John Kerstetter and Mary Etta Dull. John's Father was from Pennsylvania. They resided primarily in the Temperance Michigan area right on the Ohio border.

Dora married my Great Grandfather, Carey Linden Leatherman, who was from Licking Co. Ohio, and then Henry Co. and Paulding Co. Ohio, where my Grandfather, LeRoy Leatherman was born. All these counties are basicly N.W. or N. Central Ohio.

Regards,
Thomas F.W. Gould
