Horton Smith Famous Golfer son of Anna Kershner
Horton Smith won the 1st Masters in 1934 and 2 out of first 3 winning again in 1936. He was President of the PGA in the early 1950's. Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen called him the best putter and chipper they ever saw. He is the only American golfer in the British Golf Hall of Fame. His mother was Anna F. Kershner daughter of William H Kershner and grandson of John H Kershner who brought his family to Greene Co. MO from Hawkins Co. TN in 1840's. His father was Perry Smith a farmer and Deputy US Marshall. He died at the age of 55 of Hodgkins disese.
