I would be interested to hear from any members of the above KERSHAW family.

It is recorded that the father - also Joseph - was born in 1699 somewhere in the Rochdale - Littleborough area of Lancashire .

Joseph was born 1727 in Sowerby, probably at the Farm of his father at Baitings Gate, Soyland.
His brothers were William b abt 1735 and Eli abt 1743.

Joseph went to South Carolina in 1748-1755 with his 2 borthers and Kershaw County - [ Camden ] and Kershaw in Lancaster Co. are named after him.

On June 21st we are hoping to place a Historic Marker on the site of Baitings Gate Farm to record the home of Col. Joseph Kershaw, Merchant, Soldierand State Legislator. and the friendship that now exists between England and the USA.
