Kersh/Kirsh/Kirsch, Jacob 1762 York PA

I just posted the following to the Kirsch Forum and thought I should post it here as well.

Question:
Is the following from Strassburger and Hinke's PA German Pioneers the group some are saying ended up in South Carolina?

"Emigration from the County of Heidelberg 1741-1749
1744
A group of persons from Zuzenhausen, namely Anna Maria (Regina) Heylmann, single; Georg Kirsch and his wife and two small children; Anna Dorothea, widow of Georg Licht(n)er and her 16 yr old son; two single men Johann Jacob Kirsch and Conrad Kirsch"

This does not say if in fact they did emigrate after receiving permission let alone where they landed.

I have a 6th ggrandfather, Jacob whose last name signed in will is Kirsh, and in deed from John Penn to "Jacob Kirsh alias Cherry" whose last name in land deeds and tax records and revolutionary lists varies from Kersh, to Kersch to Kirsch.

Along with the possibility of the above-mentioned emigration, there is the 1749 Ship Elliot listing of a Jacob Kirch(from Strassburger and Hinke's work again) as well as various other possibilities that are less likely.

My ancestor first shows up in York Co. PA. 1762 tax list. He purchases land and stays for a while. From there the late 1780's find him in Cumberland Co. and then by the 1790's in Huntingdon Co. dying in Sinking Valley PA 1803/04.

For the past 20 plus years, many descendents of his haven't had any luck proving his existence before 1762.

Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Anne Cherry Rice
