Info for Kersey/Smith researchers: ELIZABETH KERSEY and JAMES SMITH of Polk County, Florida are not the same persons as ELIZABETH KERSEY and JAMES PORTER SMITH of Pasco County, Florida.

The Elizabeth Kersey who married James Smith in Polk county in 1866 was actually "MRS ELIZABETH KERSEY". Her maiden name was Elizabeth Underhill, the daughter of Jeremiah Underhill and Mary Roddenberry. She married GEORGE KERSEY on 19 Dec. 1856 in Madison County, FL. They had three children: Jeremiah, James, and Mary.

ELIZABETH married 1st: GEORGE KERSEY 19 Dec. 1856 in Madison County, FL.
ELIZABETH married 2nd: JAMES SMITH 1866 in Polk Co., FL.
ELIZABETH married 3rd: SAMUEL JOHNSON about 1887 in Polk Co., FL.

ELIZABETH UNDERHILL was born 8 Mar 1839 in Georgia. She died on 6 February 1917 in Polk County, Florida. She is buried in Old Elim Cemetery west of Bartow, Polk Co., Florida. Her sons, Jeremiah Kersey and James Kersey are also buried there.
