Scottish Jacobite Kerr married a Stirling of Kier
My ancestor William Reed Kerr (1813-1861), son of Thomas Kerr (1788-1853) who lived in Philadelphia & born in Ireland & grandson of John Kerr (1740-1806) (acquaintance of the father or grandfather of J.P.Curran (the famous Irish lawyer)), allegedly received a letter from a Sir Wm. Ker of Edinburgh:
"Giving our lineal descent from Lord Kier of Sterling who was for treason tried in the rising of "??45?" when the adherents of "The House of Stewarts" went out to meet the so called Pretender Charles Edward grandson of James the Second."
I was wondering if this is Lord Stirling of Kier.
Anyone know of any Kerr marrying a descendent of James Stirling of Kier in between 1720 and 1770?
If you have any insights, please reply?
Thank you.
