Hi John ~
Your list is of real interest to me because it includes 2 surnames in my line I hadn't before considered being linked, and so gives me more clues in what was a deadend on both!
My great x 3 grandmother was Marguerite Bargoon, which I suspect is the same as the Burgoon you list. All I know of her is that she was born in PA somewhere around 1810, married Irish immigrant Patrick O'Neil, migrated west thru Ohio, and ended up in Terre Haute IN where Patrick died. Their oldest child Bridget was born in PA (married in OH to John Buckley), their next two kids were born in Ohio (where it looks like they lived for at least 6 years), and their last, my great-great grandmother Ann O'Neil, was born in Terre Haute IN.I had no idea where in OH or PA any of them came from, and your list gave me some ideas -- thanks:)
In fact, I'd almost given up on finding any Bargoon family history, thinking Marguerite might have been from a gypsy family and had left her roots far behind when she moved west with her husband. Now it seems possible they moved to OH because she had kin in the area.
Ironically this family has a possible Kerr connection in IN: Ann O'Neil married Daniel K. Conover, son of Ralph R. Conover and Elnor Snedeker. Ralph R. had immigrated from New Jersey to Terre Haute around 1840. We're still trying to identify his parents' families back east -- but so far all we know is their names: William Conover Sr. and Anna J. Keer, which we suspect might well have been "Ker" or "Kerr". William was born in Cranbury NJ, home area for many Conover families -- but we have a note that he had some connection to Washington Co PA too. Maybe where he met his wife, Anna Keer/Kerr?
I noticed a "Beaver Co PA" mentioned on your list as birthplace for many of the Kerrs. Do you know if this is near Washington Co?Are the Ohio locations for families in your list anywhere near Cincinnatti? This is where William Conover Sr and Anna Keer's son William Jr stayed for a number of years on his own migration west. At this point we don't know if his parents were with him.
Does any of this sound familiar?
