Gene,
I have been working on the Kerlin tie-in from Virginia to Georgia in the late 1700’s and I found where you posted this;
My ancestors from this family are Samuel Kerlin (b. 1802) to Thomas Samuel Kerlin (b. 1833) to Benjamin Franklin Kerlin (b. 1855) to Edd Luke Kerlin (b. 1891) to my father, James Kerlin (B. 1925). I guess that makes us cousins.
I was just curious as to what the Lowrimore Family Bible said about the husband of the Elizabeth Kerlin you mentioned above, if anything. I am pretty sure she was Samuel’s mother, as well, but without either her maiden name or the first name of the Kerlin that she married in Virginia, I cannot make the connection.
I can follow the Kerlin line from Pennsylvania to the Jacob Kerlin/Hannah Umstead family move to Virginia in the mid 1700’s. I have found one of Jacob’s son’s,Samuel Kerlin (b. 1781) that I have not been able to link to a wife, but his birth date does not work very well with this Elizabeth Kerlin as he would have been 19 years younger than her.
I have also found a Kerlin line out of Burlington NJ with a Thomas Kerlin (b. 1720) that was married to Grace Buffin (b. 1720). They had 4 sons with 3 (Joseph, Mathias, Thomas, Jr.) that I know who they married, but I have not been able to find a spouse for the youngest, John Kerlin (b. 1748). The date works out with Elizabeth and he could be the missing Kerlin Link that I have been looking for.
I was just wondering if you have any further info on either of the Kerlin lines that would definitively tie them to the Georgia Kerlin line, or if the Bible mentions a first name for her husband?
This has been a tough nut to crack due to the missing Georgia Census records and others from that time period.
Any help from anyone out there would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael Kerlin
