Matthew, do you happen to know who is the father of Samuel Kerlin, b. 1818-1820 in Forestville, Shenandoah County, Virginia? In the 1860 census, Samuel and his wife Mary had a son, William, b. 1848.It seems that William died in 1876 at age 27 and is buried in the Solomons Church Cemetery in Forestville. In the 1880 census Samuel and Mary are listed with widowed daughter-in-law Mary E. (Henckel), and grandchildren, Charles S., Mark C., and Carrie L.
The line I am researching is that of Charles Samuel Kerlin, who married Julia Ellen Zirkle in 1848.They lived at Moore's Store at least part of the time, and the census place is called Lee.Charles and Julia are also buried at the Solomons Church Cemetery.
Charles S. and Julia Kerlin named their oldest son William Franklin Kerlin, if that is a clue.
Thanks!
