Kerly/Kerby Will - 1734 -
Posted by: Judith Schreiber (ID *****9276) Date: August 18, 2009 at 06:18:29

This notice appears in the history of a Nicholas Bowden who was the brother of Mary Bowden Carley/Cearley who's son William Carley, Jr m. Martha Patty Carter, founders of the Cearley families of VA and NC in the mid 1700's. We believe that the John Kerby referred to is actually John KERLY, son of Capt. Henry Kerley of Sudbury, Lancaster and Marlborough in the MA Bay Colony -- if anyone has a copy or can direct me to a site showing this Will, we may be able to connect John Kerly back to the Immigrant Kerly lines.

Referring to Nicholas Bowden/Boden/Boaden, b. January 19, 1673 at Saco/Scarborough, Black Point, Maine to John and Grace Bully Bowden, son of Capt. Ambrose and Marie Lethebridge Bowden --

"The earliest date his name appeared in the public records of Virginia was the year 1734, when he was witness to the will of ***John Kerby **** in Elizabeth City County (now the City of Hampton). "
