My husband's great grandfather was an Anton Kercher. I've just begun this research so I know very little other than to tell you he would have died in Illinois and he was the last veteran of the Franco Prussian war to die and as I understand it was given a rather elaborate ceremony. His sons were George, John and Tony. He also owned Kercher Baths in Chicago. We don't know his first wife's name yet, but his second wife was Anna.
