Virginia State Land Patents, Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Patent #29, November 3, 1750 (Reel 27, page 290) Grantees: Richard Kirby and Ambrose Williams, conjoint, for 280a.It makes mention of their Manor in East Greenwich in the County of Kent, England.
As I said, I am researching Ambrose Williams b. 1725-30 whose daughter married a Kirley but this definitely appears to be Richard KIRBY.This Ambrose Williams b. 1717 married a MACY/MACEY in VA.
If you follow the deeds for this land, you will find that Richard and Ambrose split the land; then Ambrose sold his share to Richard; then Richard Kirby Sr. sold his share to John Kerby - probably a son. That is what I have found on the Kirby Fam. of early IOW, VA.Clydene
