I, too, am descended from a Kerbo: George Washington Kerbo.
While I cannot say for certain that I know the true origin of the name "Kerbo/Kerboe, etc.", one of my grandfather's sisters said that Kerbo was originally a French name that became Americanized from the word "corbeau", which means crow or bird. And that is certainly a word that can be looked up in a French dictionary. Just some food for thought...
