Linda:I have a copy of the Thistle's load, as it was printed in Vol. 2, Strassburger, Hinke, ed. It showed both Leonard and son Johannes signed as Kopplinger, with an umlaut.
There were Keplingers in Cadolsburg Germany, but later. Because of Freudenthaler's name as sponsor, the minister's wife thought Leonard and wife had also come from Austria, but were married elsewhere as Elizabeth's maiden name was not listed. My husband and I had driven across Austria, and above Salzburg, in the mountains, was a small town called Koppl. We stopped, but everything seemed to be closed. The Schwaigern's minister's wife also thought Leonard might have served as a soldier for Schwaigern's ruler, as he had had connections in Salzburg. A number of Germans had explained to me that the "inger" ending indicated the person came from elsewhere. Janet May
