I don't know why they chose to go to Eau Claire, WI. All the information I have is from an obituary for William Lucien Kepler:
Kepler, William Lucien (1827-1917): Obituary by Marshall Cousins published in the Eau Claire Leader, SCRAPBOOKS OF NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS CONCERNING EAU CLAIRE AND THE CHIPPEWA VALLEY, Vol. 3, p. 57. Published in the Eau Claire Leader 2/3 Feb 1917, p. 5.
The obituary states that he died shortly after midnight at Sacred Heart Hospital after a 3-month battle with cancer. He was born in 1827 near Meadville, PA, and lived on a farm, and later was a merchant in Meadville. He came in 1870 to Eau Claire where his brother, S. S. Kepler, and a cousin, Richard J. Kepler, had settled. They formed The Kepler Company, in which he retained an interest until his move to the De Land, Florida, area around 1905 when he became manager of the Winnimissett Park company, an orange grove. It also states: "He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Maude Alexander and Miss Katherine Kepler, all of Florida. His brothers living are S. S. Kepler, former mayor of Eau Claire, and A. S. Kepler of Meadville, Pa., and sisters, the Misses Susan and Julia Kepler of Chautauqua, N.Y., and Mrs. Oscar Clark of Nebraska." A newspaper notice on 7 Feb 1917 said that his funeral was at the First Congregational Church, and attendees included Mrs. J. E. Alexander of De Land, Fla., a daughter, and John Lyman, Jr., of Chicago, a grandson. Burial was in the chapel vault of Forest Hill Cemetery.
