On May 25, l852, MR. GEORGE MOREY and MR. JOHN KEOWN with their families and descendants to the number of fourteen, settled on a farm near Pleasanton, Iowa. Of those fourteen, only two are left, SAMUEL S. KEOWN, of Lamoni, who was about one year old when he came to this county and his brother, GEORGE, a few years older, but their descendants number several score.
About seventy of these relatives met at Pleasanton on Sunday, May l7, to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of their landing in Decatur County. S.S. KEOWN enjoyed the day immensely with the group but his brother, GEORGE, is so feeble now that he could be present only a few minutes, long enough to welcome the happy family groups.
A big dinner was served in the Woodman hall at Pleasanton after which an impromptu program was rendered including a speech by S.S. KEOWN.
A business meeting was called and the following officers elected to serve the organization the coming year: WALTER MOREY, President; EMMET LEEPER, secretary-treasurer and GERTRUDE KEOWN, historian, with SYLVIA VANDEL, assistant.
Attendants at the reunion were from Pleasanton, Lamoni, Leon, Weldon, Decatur, Lineville and MRS. ELSIE HALL, from Oklahoma. They represent four generations, all of the first and second generations of the original settlers having passed on.
