KEOWN b Sep 14,, 1830, d Dec 9, 1910.... ... LARKIN C. KEOWN, b Sep 14, 1830, married MARGARET ANN SALLEE, on Oct 20, 1851. She was born Dec 28, 1832, died Aug 20, 1854. Their daughter was: SARAH LUCRETIA KEOWN, b Aug, 1854, d May 23, 1942, who married JH WHITEHEAD,and resided in Centralia, Ill. LARKIN C. KEOWN remarried after Margaret Salle’s death, to JULIE ANN COPELAND, on Nov 4, 1857. Julie Ann was born May 8, 1837, died Nov 22, 1914. They were married in the Franklin House, at Alton, Ill, which was formerly the Alton Hotel, where Lincoln stayed when there during the Lincoln and Douglas debates. It was a double wedding, JOSEPH P. STEPP and MARTHA ELIZABETH PEARCE , being married at the same time. LARKIN C. and JULIE ANN KEOWN had seven children: ADA A. KEOWN born 1859, died at her home in Jacksonville, Fla Aug 22, 1928, and is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Edwardsville, Ill. JOE H. KEOWN who married MAUD HARRIS of Duquoin, Ill. They resided in Deland, Fla. Where he died May 2, 1944. CHARLES SHERIDAN KEOWN, b Oct 17, 1864 DIED Jan 6, 1931. He was associated for many years with the McCormack Harvester Co. Prominent Publicity Newspaper Service, and Ledarer News Co; MARY P. KEOWN born June 25, 1869, died on her 62nd birthday anniversary and was buried in the family lot in Woodlawn Cemetery. She was married in 1910 to J. FLOYD KEOWN, of Greenville, S.C. and they resided in Walhalla, SC. They had a daughter ELOISE, who was born------1916, and is living with her aunt, Mrs. JULIA KEOWN McKEE, in New York City. MRS J.F. KEOWN was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville, and for a number of years was their organist. She met her husband through research work, her father, Larkin C. Keown, was doing in compiling the the Keown genealogy. The manuscripts of which are now in the possession of her sister, Mrs Agnes McKee, although their names are the same there is no known relationship prior totheir marriage. AGNES I. KEOWN, the third daughter of Larkin C., and Julia Ann Keown, was born July 29, 1874, married June 1, 1899 to Dr. ALBERT MCKEE, who was born Feb 7, 1862, died Mar 17, 1903. They had one son, James Albert McKee, born Feb 20, 1902, a bright little boy who lived only a few months after his father had passed away. Dr. McKee was a graduate of Rush Medical College, of Chicago, and began the practice of medicine in Edwardsville, in 1893. He was widely known, and had a large practice. He was county physician in charge of thehospital at the county farm. JULIA B KEOWN, the youngest daughter of Larkin C., b Aug 31, 1878, married Ralph Edwin McKee, b Aug 6, 1878, a cousin of Dr. A.B. McKee, and they resided in New York City where Mr. McKee was in charge of the Long Bell Lumber Co’s interest Of Kansas City, Mo, being their Eastern Representative. He died Jan 22, 1930, and she died Feb 24, 1959 EVA KEOWN, another daughter, died in infancy. Mr. Keown, known to many as Uncle Larkin, had the misfortune of losing his parents when quite young. He was placed in the hands of his Uncle, William W. Pearce, to rear and who seerved as a guardian until he had attainted his majority. Previous to his entering on a mercantile career, he taught school in Madison Co and Bond co, Illinois. Afterwards he was appointed Assistant Postmaster in Alhambra. He did not remain long in the mercantile business until he disposed of his interest, and in 1860 after being associated for a time with Swain and Bro. Milling Co of Troy, Ill. he moved to Edwardsville, Ill. There he continued to live until his death. He was of a refined nature, highly esteemed by all who knew him, and had a high sense of honor, his word was never questioned. He held many appointments of honor, the longest continuous service was with the School Board, being appointed in 1869 and serving for thirty five years. He was appointed deputy under Sheriff Juliaus A Barasback, and also served under Mr. Thomas O. Springer, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Recorder of Deeds, and again under County Clerk C.W. Dimmock. He organized the Clover Leaf Building and Loan Association and served as secretary until his retirement from business. He was one of the organizers of the Old Settlers Association of Madison County in which he was greatly interested....
