Hello from out West to my extended family. What a delight to find this website! My name is Julian Perry Keown. I am the third child and only son of Calvin Perry Keown, Jr. and Nora Eads Keown. My under- standing is that in about 1905, Calvin Perry Keown, Jr. moved west in the homestead move- ment and settled in Eastern New Mexico, near Clovis. He moved westward in search of greater opportunity and the American Dream. He was one of six children born to Calvin Perry and Amanda Keown of Hartford, KY. It is my understanding that my grandfather, Calvin Perry Keown, Sr., was Sheriff and/or lower court judge in Hartford. My father, Calvin Perry Keown, Jr., died of pnuemonia at an early age in 1925 when I was seven months old. I have two older sisters and our mother had a very difficult struggle keeping food on the table and a roof over our heads, especially during the Great Depression. As a result of all this, we had little or no contact with the Keown side of our family since they all lived far from New Mexico. We were taught to be proud of our name and heritage, and that our line of descent was from Thomas Keown and his second wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" whose maiden name was Young From there the names William, Samuel, Calvin Perry, Sr., Calvin Perry, Jr, and Julian Perry (me) follow. I have limited information about my aunts and uncles but little else. My remaining sister, Jeanette Keown Vach, and I are hopeful that some of you knowledgable folk can confirm or correct the information above, and it would be a plus to learn more about all those mentioned. Most in our branch have settled on the West Coast from near Seattle to near San Diego, and we are all eager to learn more of our lineage. By the way, we all have always used Kown (with silent e) except our oldest son who has retaken the name McKeown. God Bless you all and we hope to hear from you.
