Yes, Dorothy Garvie who married James Riddell jnr was my father's cousin. Donald Sutherland Garvie, her father, was one of several Garvie brothers who farmed in Nandi terrirory from 1904 onward. Dorothy was born during the Nandi Revolution of 1905 at Kapsabet. (See R.Meinertzhagen, Kenya Diary.) Donald and Nellie (Cornelia) moved into Nairobi where Donald introduced "bioscope" to Kenya. He was also editor of the Advertiser for a short while. He died relatively young, aged 39 years and is buried in Nairobi. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland 3 JUN 1873.
Should you be interested in Dorothy's genealogy and her father who was something of an adventurer I'd be happy to forward it. I'd be equally interested to know more about the Riddells as I have no further information. I wonder whether there is a wedding photo?
