GARVIE of Kenya 1900ff
Posted by: Colin Garvie (ID *****6662) Date: March 03, 2003 at 03:31:30

I am interested in any references to the Garvie family who settled in Nandi territory (R.Meinertzhagen, "Kenya Diary") and farmed near present day Eldoret from 1902 onward. The Garvie Estates are said to be indicated on some early maps a copy of which I would dearly love. Donald Garvie introduced bioscope to Nairobi and one time editor of a local newspaper. He is buried in Nairobi. The Garvie brothers who settled in BEA included John (Station Master at Nakura?); Donald (Nandi and Nairobi), and George (Eldoret). The family were well known in the local entertainment set. Any information will be appreciated.
