Maybe he did not speak of it because it was a real tragedy at the time.
The siblings of my Katherine Sheridan did not send word back to Ireland until a few months later that she had drowned in the Eastland Disaster.Something about being responsible to keep her safe and alive in the US and they failed.
This is Margaret Sheridan and her husband Michael Kenny in Jersey City, NJ in 1920.Michael Kenny appeared to be traveling alone to NJ, so he could be related to your Kennys.
In the 1920 United States Federal Census, living at 86 Armstrong Avenue, I found:
Name Parent or spouse names Home in 1920 (City,County,State) Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Race Relation
Michael Kenny Margaret Jersey City Ward 7, Hudson, New Jersey abt 1883 Ireland White Head (Immigrated 1897, Plasterer, House)
Margaret Kenny Michael Jersey City Ward 7, Hudson, New Jersey abt 1893 Ireland White Wife (Immigrated in 1907)
Eugene Kenny Michael, Margaret Jersey City Ward 7, Hudson, New Jersey abt 1915 New Jersey White Son
Lawrence Kenny Michael, Margaret Jersey City Ward 7, Hudson, New Jersey abt 1917 New Jersey White Son
Beatrice Kenny Michael, Margaret Jersey City Ward 7, Hudson, New Jersey abt 1919 New Jersey White Daughter
Household Members: Name Age
Michael Kenny 37
Margaret Kenny 27
Eugene Kenny 4 10/12
Lawrence Kenny 3 0/12
Beatrice Kenny 6/12
Their son, Eugene Kenny, would travel to Ireland almost every year to visit the Sheridans in Legnatroghta, Glangevlin Parish, County Cavan, Ireland. He would sometimes bring some relatives back with him from Ireland for a visit.
