Think you need to get a copy of his death certificate. Since you have his obit you know where and when he died so it should be easy to get the death certificate.
Should help. Choose the county where he died and see if they don't have info on where to write for a death certificate and what it would cost.
Wouldn't hurt to post a query on that county's genweb site. You might get lucky.
