I've been given a descendant chart that purports to indicate my descent from King Robert I the Bruce of Scotland and also King Robert II STEWART. I'm fairly confident that my lines are proven (documented) back to a Mary Ann KENNEDY born 1663 in Ireland and died 1730 in New Hampshire colony. Before her I lack any proof.
Mary Ann's mother was also born in Ireland, but the descendant chart shows that her father, Thomas KENNEDY, was born in 1640 in Scotland. His father was Sir Alexander KENNEDY, 1561-1652 in Scotland. Thomas' mother was Agnes KENNEDY (born 1660) -- I don't know if her having the same surname is indication that there was intra-family (intra-clan?) marrying going on here, or if it's indication that the source of this descendant chart info did not have a maiden surname for her.
Sir Alexander's lineage is of nobility, and is associated with a Culzean Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland. Agnes' lineage also resided in Ayrshire. Her father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all named Thomas KENNEDY.
Can you see how the multiple occurrence of this one name can lead to confusion and error? Therefore, again, it's imperative that I find some proofs for all this. And for their descent from the two kings Robert thru Robert II's son Walter STEWART.
Agnes' 2-great-grandfather was another Alexander KENNEDY who married Mariot DUNBAR, descended from the STEWART line.
Does anybody out there in family research cyber-land have proofs and/or additional details on what I've posted here? Please say yes and share it! Thanks in advance!
