I am descended from Thomas, there were four other children, two daughters, George and John. The latter married a royal Stewart, Beartrice descended from King James V, and moved to Deerness, Orkney.
My ancestor was Alexander who moved to Burray, via Freswick, from Stroma, in 1801. He was born in 1760, had a large family with Elisabeth Laird. He became the miller in Burray, on Echna Loch, was a good caring man, fought against the wicked laird of the island, was a baptist minister, married Elizabeth Scott and was still producing children in his 70's. His grandson was my grandfather James Dewar Kennedy. It is recorded in Baptist journals that never a more caring person existed and when he died in 1846, it was just like a young child going to sleep.
As previously stated we are descended from Fergus Prince of Galloway, who rarely used his Kennedy surname, which in those days simply meant the head of the clan, in Galloway its pronounced Kennethy, of the Kenneths, the kings of Scotland. There are Irish Kennedy connections and although it's difficult to prove, fergus is the prime name of Kings of Ireland. Fergus was recorded as the natural Prince or King of the Gaodhal Glas. This opens up another massive piece of research as Gaodhal was a nephew of Moses. as a child he was bitten by a venomous snake, Moses laid his rod upon the thigh and the boy was saved. The bite left a green scar which the nickname Glas comes from. Furthermore he predicted his descendents would travel to the west, to the furthest Isle, and never again would they be troubled by serpents. There are no snakes in Ireland, St Patrick also takes credit for removing the snakes. However, the family of Gaodhal Glas can be traced through the Milesian migration to Ireland, subsequently known as the Gaels. In Greece, Gaodhal was known as Gaothelos (Gaels). We are one of the few families in the world who can make such a connection, it's a little murky, as the Irish never let the truth get in the way of a good story. But nevertheless it's well recorded.
