I have the full family tree and letters to and from Capt Kennedy's Great Grandson Father Reginald Phelan.
Here's what I know of Capt. John Kennedy from these letters.
Capt. Kennedy came from Tatamagouche NS.He was a ship builder and trader at St. Peter's Harbour, PEI.His route may have been from Nova Scotia to Spain or possibly Port-au-Spain, Trinidad. His ship sank and he lost all of his cargo which put the family into financial hardship. This is the reason they moved to Fortune Road, PEI.
His wife Elizabeth McGunicle was a school teacher. (I have a copy of her last will and testament)
Capt John Kennedy and Elizabeth McGunicle had 8 children.
Captain Kennedy was one of 9 sons. One of this brothers was supposed to have married the widow of General Montcalm, however, the dates do not seem right since Montcalm was born 1712 and died in 1759 and Captain Kennedy was born in 1792.If there is a link I suspect it goes back one more generation.
Send me an email if you would like a copy of the family tree.
