An overlooked key to research in our Western Virginia area is the George Rogers Clark Papers.An extensive account of exploration of the Ohio and tributaries all the way to Detroit during the Revolutionary War.
An extensive suppy line fron Winchester to St. Louis was created and maintained.Almost every ablebodied man who could walk and was living west of the mountains is listed in it somewhere.
If you have time to scan the index, you might find an ancestor listed.Just type in George Rogers Clark Papers in the google bar...
I mention it because the salt licks along the way were used and recorded for future use.This was the begining of the saltloop from the Little Kanawha back up to Morgantown...the route was used as an overland messenger route.
