You're deep into our family history by now. William died August 22, 1852, while Matilda (living in Janeville, WI) was pregnant with child #8, Ellen Elizabeth. Matilda moved back to Woodford and farmed out the older seven children--James Roberts got Cordelia, Haautes Knapp got Adelbert, etc. Mary Etta got married. And the Daniel Hitchcock you mention was the Knapps' next-door neighbor.

So yes, you see the difficulty. Where did THIS William come from? (Not to mention his wife?)
