ERic, Not to belabor the issue, but I did also find William Kendall and wife Catherine (Taylor) in Dunstable, MA in 1870 census with two children: Ellen E. b.1846 and Nathaniel A. b.1854. This must be the one we had been pursueing. I have, however, found two new wrinkles to absorb. In Bennington, VT in 1860 census I found the following: Betsey V.D.Cook b.1785 CT, J.P. Picket b.1814 VT, Mary Picket b.1833 VT, Dorcas Squires b.1785 CT, and MATILDA KENDALL B.1820 VT, ELLEN KENDALL b.1854 Wisconsin, Emma Cullen b.1840 VT and lastly Michael Murrow b.1822 Ireland. Also in 1870 New York Census in White Creek,Washington,NY, the following: Daniel Hitchcock b.1812 CT, MATILDA HITCHCOCK b.1815 VT, ELLEN KENDALL B.1853 VT, ADELBERT KENDALL b.1851 Wisconsin, and a Benjamin Robinson b.1810 VT.
From this it seems William must have died by 1860, and, in addition Matilda seems to have married a Daniel Hitchcock, b.May 28,1811 Litchfield,CT.
One thing which seems odd. I have yet to find the rest of Matilda's children, namely: Mary Etta, Ann E., William W., Cordelia, George T. and Albert G. on any census record, especially connecting these children to William Kendall??? Most confounding!! Is there a possibility they disappeared into Canada? The only other thing I can think of did William use another name? All for now, Linda
