To all of you Kenches in the US, you may be interested to know that the greatest concentration of Kenches that I have come across is in the 'Black Country',(so called because of the effects of the Industrial Revolution on the area), North of Birmingham in the Midlands of the UK. This is probably where the family name originates from. I have no idea where the name came from linguistically, but ther used to be a Roman fort on the border of Engalnd and Wales called Kenchester.
My own family in the UK is mainly in the Midlands, but I also have relatives in Southampton and the London area. I have moved to a particularly remote part of the UK in South West Wales, near the coast facing Ireland.
