Diane-
William Henry Kemper was born in Ohio according to the 1860 census. The 1880 census shows that his mother was born in Ohio, the father's birthplace space was left blank, but I've also seen notation that his father was born in Prussia.

I have received a record from the Military Home in Dayton. It includes William's military history-- he served in the 137th Ohio Infantry from May 1864 to August 1864, as a sergeant. He was discharged for a number of reasons, including rheumatism and deafness. He came to the military home in 1898. He died on 10 Sep 1906. The record shows that his son John M, was notified by letter. His address was 1212 G St NE, Washington DC. See: http://www.carolynjburns.com/soldiers/. His body was shipped back to Cincinnati, but I can't find information on a cemetery.

I don't know about this connection, but the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnatti indicates that Willis Miller Kemper (1854-1932) was the son of Hugh Fulton Kemper (1824-1887) and Mary Jane Miller (1831-1885).

Hope this helps.
