Judith,
Yes,it is possible for the spelling to change like that.I know for sure it could happen.The Kemper are from Germany and England,etc.They all came over to better themself,change something about their life.When some of them came they changed the spelling of the name,Kemper,Kamper,Camper,VonKemper,etc.So it is possible.Do you know the names of the three brother.I may have one in my line of Kemper family.
