JOHN KEMP b. ca 1723, MD?>NY>Canada
My 5X great-grandfather was JOHN KEMP, sometimes spelled Camp on the early records. John was living in N.Y. State, in the Schenectady area, by at least 1761, where my 4X great-grandfather, Joseph, was baptized. John & his sons fought for the British during the American Revolution and on a 1783 muster roll for the King's Rangers, he is listed as being 60 yrs. of age & originating from
"MERRILAND". This would place his birth ca. 1723. When the British lost the war, John & his family moved to Ontario, Canada, in 1784. I have not been able to fit John into Robert Kemp & Elizabeth Webb's family of Talbot Co., Maryland--unless he was a son of the elusive, Edmund Kemp. I have also tried fitting him into the family of Conrad Kemp (German) of Frederick County, MD, but without any luck. Can anyone help me?
