I was particularly interested in your latest posting, re your ancestor David Kemp, born 1769 in New Jersey. I am a descendant of John Kemp, David's brother. I might guess that you are a grandson of D.H. Goodfellow, then of Beauharnois, Quebec, who published an article on Andrew Kemp, son of David, as "Recollections of a Boy of 1812", in Vol, 11, Part 1 of the Niagara Historical Society. Chadwick, in his 1898 Vol 2 of "Ontarian Families" wrote a similar treatise on the Kemp family, and considered that David, John and Burgoyne's father was Andrew Kemp, from Aberdeen. Others seem to think his name was David. As you likely know, a David Kemp, Sr. of Niagara filed a land petition in 1795, stating that he had been a British officer, in the French War before 1789, had lived in New Jersey, came to Upper Canada in 1783, and had been in Niagara since 1786. He had 12 children, 11 in Upper Canada. Burgoyne Kemp, in his petition for land of about the same time, stated that he was a son ofr David Kemp. What do you think of all this?
