KEM, KEMM, KEMME, KEME family in WILTSHIRE (PURTON/WROUGHTONetc.) kin to PLUMMER
In the course of my research into the PLUMMER family of Purton, Wilts., the KEM/KEMM/KEMME/KEME family has occurred a number of times. There were at least three intermarriages:
John PLUMMER, yeoman, of Purton, Wilts., married probably shortly before 1627, Edith, daughter of Richard KEMM (KEMME), yeoman, of Elcombe, Wroughton, Wilts (PCC will).
Richard PLUMMER, yeoman, of Purton, married Ann KEMM (KEM), of Lydiard Tregoz, Wilts. in 1647.
John PLUMMER, married Ann KEMM (KEM) at St Mary's Marlborough in 1687.
I descend from at least one of these marriages (1647), and possibly also from another (ante 1627).
I am interested in all instances of the KEM (and variants) surname in Wiltshire, and have seen the work of Philip Dyke, of London (UK), at the Society of Genealogists on this subject (he collected KEM and allied wills from Wiltshire and Staffordshire), depositing a copy of his work (along with some papers indexing deeds he had seen or in his own possession) in the library of the Society of Genealogists in London.
I am also interested to know if there is any connexion with William Cove KEMM, esq., of Avebury manor, near Marlborough, Wilts. He was baptised in 1813, the son of John KEMM, by his wife Elizabeth COVE.
I am researching all families from Purton, Wilts., partly because this benefits me in my attempts at unpuzzling my own extensive Purton ancestry.
In the course of this long research, I have become the OPC (on-line parish clerk) for the adjacent parishes of Purton and Rodbourne Cheney, Wilts.
