Be careful not to mix this Family with the dec. of Henry (KELCHNER) Keltner Sr. of Penn.and Shenandoah,Va. The S.C. family does not come from him and if they are related its before that generation.
You asked who the father was (of John ,Henry,Daniel,William etc. I'm not sure so I Hate to spread unprooved rumors so take this with a grain of salt.A bunch of Keltners show S.C. as birthplace in the late 1700's yet we dont find them on any census before 1820. The only person that shows up is Henry KELCHwhose name shows up KELTCH in 1810. Then when the Keltnners show up in 1820 the Kelch family Disappears.(My keltner ancestors are the product of a name chage from Kelchner to Keltner in Va.) Isuspect Henry Kelch was really a Kelchner and first tried dropping the second part of the name later restoring it and changing the first part. You need to search land and other records for Newberry Dist.,S.C. etc. to proove or disproove this.In a book there is a claim these Keltners came from Penn. I don't know how reliable that is. Most S.C. Germans came directly from Ger. and Switz.Possible variants of Kelchner show up on the resently pub.Salzburger rolls. I'm sorry to have taken long in answering. Also Keep in mind this is one theory and not prooved and my experiance with 2 other Kelchner lines evolving into Keltner lines may have colored my thinking. Also keep in mind Kelch is a normal German name much more common than Kelchner. I hope we helped-KELTNER FAM. ASS.
