I am most interested in your mention of army/navy in your reply to Sonia.
Although the affair with a servant isn't an exact match, there is another interesting similar family story (will discuss off-forum).
My (mainly) army Kelsalls married into the LARKINS family (mainly EIC) who intermarried with the COLLINGWOOD, CARLTON and SAMSON families - these three families were also mariners of one variety or another.
