My Grandfather William Patrick Kelly born Aug 30, 1873 In New York City lower eastside on Seventh St bewtween 1st and 2nd Ave. he was baptized at the Church of the Nativity on Second Ave between 2nd and 3rd Streets. his father was William Kelly born in County Cork Ireland and mother was Elizabeth Barclay born in London England in 1850 of Irish born parents Thomas'the talior'Barclay and Ellen Bevan,
William and Elizabeth had another son named Thomas Kelly born 1869 and died in 1948. William was said to have gone west to visit a sister and died out there before 1880, leaving his wife a widow with two sons. my grandfather William Patrick Kelly moved to Brooklyn around 1900 and in 1909 he is listed living on State St between Bond and Nevins streets and married my grandmother Laura McGuire who was born June 9, 1888 on Gold St near Pearl St, at the time of their marriage she is living with here father William Henry McGuire on Warren St between Smith and Hoyt Streets. they were married at St James RC Church, and in on June 26, 1910 had first child John Patrick Kelly and on Dec 10, 1912 had their second child Laura Elizabeth Kelly (My Mother). they lived awhile on Bergen St between Smith and Hoyt St and moved out to East Flatbush for a few years before moving back downtown about 1935. John Patrick Kelly became a policeman and served from abt 1935-1955 in the 84th Precincts on Gold St. My mother married my father William Herbert Huff born Nov 24, 1906 South Carolina in 1934 Brooklyn NY, he at that time was in the US Coast Guard stationed on Staten Island and she kepted a job as a seamtress. I dont know what became of Elizabeth Barclay Kelly and she might have lived with son William on Whyte St in 1900 Brooklyn and dont see her after, most of the family are buried at Holy Cross Cem. Brooklyn...... John Patrick Kelly married three times and had two sons from first two marriages, the first son was John Patrick Kelly Jr. who served in the NYFD in Brooklyn in the 1950s and had a wife Margaret, children John, Patricia Lorraine, Peggy and Margaret? who we lost contact after 1974. Grandfather William Patrick Kelly worked as a pipecutter in the 1920s before getting a job in the NY State building in the 1930s, his brother Thomas Kelly however worked for a railroad and ship company and lived in Bronxville NY and when he died left a few thousand to my mother and uncle in 1948. My mother and her parents attended St Pauls RC Church on Court St beteen Warren and Congress St from the 1918-1940, my grandparents also attended St Agness Church on Hoyt St Brooklyn.
