Greetings from Ballyvourney, Co. Cork.
Jerry Kelleher 7/06/01
Hello Jerry:
I'm a Kelleher who traces back to Ballyvourney. My great grandparents were born there abt. 1832 and emigrated during the famine to Delaware near Wilmington and the PA border.
Their farmhouse and a good deal of the land still exists. It's owned today by some of the DuPont clan and is worth lots of bucks. They (Denis and Ellen)had four sons, none of whom wanted to farm.I guess the old boy was kind of a skinflint so they all left and so did the farm.
My grandad Mike ended up in Massachusetts where he married Mary Drislane from Waterford Co.My cousin Denis Drislane still lives in her home there. He is a dairyman.I've visited there a few times. The farm is beautiful and so are the views.I have pictures of his (my grandmother's)
farm and one I took on the main street of Ballyvourney in '96 hanging in the kitchen.Have they completed that new road through town and is it really as bad as I think?Work was going on there during my last time over in '01.
Let me hear from you Jerry.
Have a grand week.
Phil
