I'd have to say highly possible since I've had
difficulty when asked my name, they generally get
it wrong. When I say it, they spell it:
Kelsner
kelsmer
Keltchner
Kelshner
Kelchmer
Keltsner
Keltner
even
Kitchner
Kitchener
Kichner
It all depends on how the person 'hears' it when
one 'says' it for them.
So Kelsheimer would sound Kelsh - i - mer, similar to
how it comes from my lips.. Kelshner... causing others to
misspell it regularly. So when I'm asked, knowing it will
be written down... I spell if for them rather than say it.
Less confusion that way.
I used to pronounce it with the 's' sound (Kelshner) and
that's how they'd attempt to spell it, so I changed to
Kelch ner, occaisionally getting the 't' or 's' in there
but this way, they hear the mmm sound for the n so it
comes out with Kelshmer.
My dad - Bruce A. Kelchner (1932-2008) told me once
the Kelchner name in Germany changed a few times known
as Keligner or Kelichner,or possibly other forms of
spelling, and that it developed into Kelchner here
in the states.
I've been trying to remember my dad's brother's
and sister's names as there were nine in his family:
Willis,
Ned,
Ted,
Harley,
Charles,
Ethyl,
Gladys
The two others dad didn't mention much of, possibly
older or younger than him.Dad was nine when Grandpa
died from what he told me.Said Grandpa Worked the
Pennsylvania Steel company as foreman... not sure.
Harley B. Kelchner and Eva Ebner Kelchner were my
Grandpa and Grandma on the Kelchner side.
My name comes from Grandpa - Harley B. Kelchner.
